Syorä Sohen Gaňdövina was assassinated by a radical Impurist, Jeozszem Hegyna, on the afternoon of 30 October, 1941, in Keszanetaa's Martyr Square. Gaňdövina, who had previously been targeted in the firebombing of the Tuszkean Independent in 1939 by the Impurist movement, had just finished giving a speech to a small crowd when he was approached by Jeozszem Hegyna, a low-level member of the Eporisya Malosom za Tuszkeya. Gaňdövina turned to greet Hegyna, at which point Hegyna pulled out a pistol and fired five shots at Gaňdövina, four of which hit him, and one of which hit and instantly killed bystander Hosra Debiyina. Although Gaňdövina survived the initial confrontation, one of his arteries had been severed by a bullet, and he quickly bled to death surrounded by those who had come to hear him speak. He was pronounced dead on scene by medical officials.

Hegyna was immediately arrested without resistance, and put on trial for two charges of capital murder and a charge of terrorism. Prosecutors on behalf of the Tuszkean state were quick to seek the death penalty, which was legal in Reriskzeiy at the time. An independent panel deemed his crimes to be eligible of a potential death penalty sentence on 2 November, 1941, and in a federal trial he was found guilty on all counts on 23 November and sentenced to death. He was executed on 1 January, 1942.

Gaňdövina's murder shocked many Tuszkeans, who had in his time at the Tuszkean Independent and later as a freelance columnist advocated for Tuszkean rights throughout the Kryfona Kingdom. A day of national mourning was declared for 31 October, 1941, and he was buried on 7 November, 1941 with full honors. In 1971, thirty years after his murder, Tyeri Awaseq posthumously awarded him the Medal of Bravery in a service in Keszanetaa.
