Keszanetaa, also known by the name of Kežaňňeta (Kryfona: Ketoj za Keszanetaa; For. Kryf. pronunciation: /kɛ.tʌdʒ zɑ ˈkɛ.sɑˌnɛ.tʌ/; Tuszkean: Ketöž sa Kežaňňeta; S Tuz. pronunciation: /kɛ.tuːʒ sɑ ˈkɛʒˌɑŋː.ɡɛ.tɑ/) is the capital and largest city of Reriskzeiy Province, as well as the capital of the extralegal Tuszkean Autonomous Province. It is one of just two majority-Tuszkean cities in the Kryfona Kingdom, and is one of the largest cities in the country with a population of 1.4 million and a metropolitan area containing 2.7 million people. The city was founded around 1473 by the semi-nomadic Tuszke Kryfona, and gradually shifted from a temporary settlement to a permanent living area for Tuszkeans. The first permanent buildings in the city were built around 1503, when the city was declared the capital of the Tuszke State.
Keszanetaa's native name of Kežaňňeta most likely derived from a misspelling of the name of Tuszkean leader Jiyun Kežaňeta. Despite ňň not being native to Tuszkean, this has been and remains the recognized native name of the city. The official name, Keszanetaa, was fist given to the city in 1547, after the Tuszke State was conquered by the Kryfona Kingdom and reorganized into the Kryfona Tuszke puppet state. Kryfona, most likely misunderstanding the name due to its unusual pronunciation, transcribed it as Kezanketaa at first, and later "corrected" it to Kezanetaa. Its current form was first recorded in 1630, and was made the official name in 1643 by royal decree. Keszanetaa was the sole official name of the city until 1884, when Reriskzeiy Province was incorporated and named Tuszkean as an official language.
Not surprisingly, Keszanetaa has a troubled history. As one of only two majority-Tuszkean cities in the entire Kingdom, it has long been a hotbed of not just Tuszkean, but Kryfona and Yaraan nationalism. Conflict between the native Tuszkean population and the introduced Standard Kryfona population has long been an issue for the city. Ethnic riots have taken place over twenty times in the city since 1883, and the city has twice been under occupation: once between 1883 and 1884, and again between 1964 and 1965. Bombings committed by the Eporisya Malosom led to the city being nicknamed the "Warzone" throughout most of the 1900s; assassinations and shootings were also an almost daily occurrence in the city between 1903 and 1976. Only in recent history has the city calmed significantly.
Nonetheless, Keszanetaa is one of the richest cities in the Eastern Kingdom. The city was the fastest growing in the Eastern Kingdom for almost 25 years between 1980 and 2000, and remains one of the largest growing metropolitan areas in the Kingdom. The city has poverty and unemployment rates below the national average, and life expectancy in the city is higher than the national average as well. Keszanetaa is served by four major universities, and is one of the scientific capitals of the Kryfona Kingdom. It also has a small, but rapidly expanding tram system known as the Keszanetaaza-tram.
Geography
Keszanetaa is by most metrics a rather hilly city, although on many maps it is not depicted that way. The tallest point in the city, Suidtman Hill (2,457 ft) is only 141 feet taller than the lowest point in the city, Tudzmerje Creek (2,316 ft); however, the city is certainly not level. The city is dominated by smaller, less prominent hills, particularly in the suburban communities that surround Keszanetaa. Hills are so ubiquitous to Keszanetaa that there are several large subdivisions named for them, including the "Hills District" in downtown Keszanetaa and Helsihimoz just north of the city proper.
Climate
Keszanetaa is located within a desert region of Reriskzeiy, receiving only 5.8 inches of precipitation per year.
