The Yaraan Secession Crisis (Kryfona: Yaraan Zajerels Kiris, Yaraan: Yaran Zasiril Kerese) was a long lasting mess that occurred from 1802 to 1806 between the Yaraan Autonomous Province and the Kryfona Kingdom. Beginning over Yaraan rights in the Kingdom, the Secession Crisis quickly snowballed into an insurgency against the Kryfona, and at its high-water mark in 1804 over 2,000 Yaraans and Kryfona were killed in just a month.
During the first few years of crisis, the Arieles Kingdom also assisted Yaraa in attempting to achieve its independence from the Kingdom. However, they never took decisive action in the conflict, and pulled out of negotiations in 1805. After numerous unsuccessful campaigns against the Kryfona in 1805 and 1806, and decisive Kryfona action in the latter half of 1806, the Yaraan insurgent groups were put down for good on November 11th, 1806. The Secession Crisis ended later that day, and as a direct result of what happened, Kryfona and Yaraans would not again get along for almost 100 years.

Almost from the beginning of their coexistence, Yaraan and Kryfona relations had been soured. Lured by the mineral rich lands which the Yaraans occupied, in 1662, the Kryfona under Kghyilda Svariyantina pushed their borders almost six hundred miles eastwards to the edge of the-then Yaraan Confederacy in just a few days and began pressuring the Yaraans to incorporate into the kingdom. Although they refused, skirmishes with Yaraan minorities in 1664 quickly lead to the Ŏkuda -- the process by which the Kryfona virtually annexed the entirety of the Yaraan Confederation, and officially incorporated it. And, although an insurgency went on for the next five years against the action, the Yaraans eventually -- if hesitantly -- joined the Kingdom as the Yaraan Autonomous Province in 1669. Nevertheless, many Yaraans openly loathed the Kingdom, and the action effectively soured Yaraan-Kryfona relations.
Beginning of the Crisis
The Crisis officially began on January 2nd of 1802,[1] when the Yaraan Autonomous Province formally declared that if the Kryfona did not begin treating them better[2] within a few days or weeks, they would formally leave the Kingdom.
As Yaraa was a significant portion of the Kryfona's eastern region at the time, the Kryfona government under Rogdin Lunaerterijalis quickly threatened the YAP with sanctions and dissolution if they attempted to leave. When this failed to intimidate the Yaraans into submission, Suonos Alaszŏ, the YAP's leader, was spurred into actively planning for secession. As such Rogdin ordered the Army of the Kryfona into Yaraa, and threatened to put down any Yaraan "states" that were declared. Beginning on January 4th, Kryfona forces occupied the Yaraan cities of Yarasil, Yadysim, and Tidkae, and on the morning of the 5th they began their occupation of Yolrie.
The swift and sudden occupation of the four major bastions of Yaraan society enraged many Yaraans both within the cities and the neighboring countryside. Late on the 5th, spontaneous demonstrations against the Kryfona occupation began (especially in Yolrie[3]) and only grew in size as the day progressed.
Originally, these protests were not an issue. However, as night began to fall upon the city of Yolrie, the crowds began to become violent.

- ↑ At this time, most Yaraans were considered de facto second class citizens, even within the YAP.
- ↑ In Yolrie, it is estimated that up to half a million Yaraans, or almost two thirds of the population, turned out to protest at some point on that day.
