The 1963 Nylzsryf riot began as large-scale protests outside of the Kryfonsparliszaiye in response to the Purge scandal on 21 July, 1963, and quickly escalated into widespread rioting that lasted two days in central Nylzsryf. Rioting began in the afternoon of 21 July when police attempted, and ultimately failed to disperse the crowd which had gathered and had begun to get violent. Windows in the nearby neighborhood of Lazanse were smashed, and four buildings burned to the ground before angry crowds scattered. Through the night, acts of looting and arson spread to several other adjacent neighborhoods, prompting a declaration of emergency by Zacin Magriza, then-mayor of Nylzsryf. During the night, four people were killed in a firebombing on a building, representing the only fatalities of the rioting.

Although police and several military units were able to gain control of the situation in the Lazanse neighborhood, low-scale rioting persisted throughout 22 and 23 July, with at least 30 incidents of arson and 100 incidents of looting being reported throughout the two days. It was only after the dismissal of basically all members of the YKM who were in on the plot by then-leader Veim Faldŭ that rioting ceased in the city. Total damages were reported at around 70,000,000 Kryfona currency.png (equivalent to about 35,000,000 US dollars) for the three nights of incidents.

Background

In the months and even days before 21 July, support for the YKM was actually rather high among the population of Nylzsryf and the Kryfona Kingdom in general—in fact, three days before the first story on the Purge scandal broke, the YKM had its highest approval ratings in the Kryfona Kingdom.
