The Battle of Zatolpagat (Drakona: ɾʅɒɔ ȷʋ ɿ̆ɾɷɂɝɔɜ̆) was the first battle of the First Edazoran Civil War. It was fought on October 17th, 1265.

Background

A few hours after the start of the civil war, the Dehel marched into Zatolpagat and took it over, along with many other Edazoran towns and villages. It was quickly abandoned by almost the entire Dehel force however however, as Yorlon wanted to occupy and take as much land in the Jadahala region as possible. A force of just under a hundred, and several scouts occupied Zatolpagat for three days, before one of the scouts overheard a conversation between several villagers about the Edazoran Force, and its intent on taking back Zatolpagat. The scout rushed to Yorlon who was in Galyos at the time, and gave him the news. Yorlon then proceeded to mobilize the Dehel into a small militia force, and rounded up as many villagers as he possibly could.

The final strength of the militia was around 8,200. The militia was then immediately rushed to Zatolpagat with no training, and some without weapons. The Dehel Militia  in to Zatolpagat just under three hours later, just an hour ahead of the Edazora Force under the command of Ahadales Tolaahaad. The Dehel were organized into several units, the 1st and 2nd Pike, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Swordsmen, and several minutes after they were, the Edazora Force arrived in Zatolpagat.

The Start of the Battle

The Edazora Force outnumbered the Dehel by nearly 2-to-1, being approximately 16,000 strong. Despite this, Ahadales was skeptical that the fight would be easy. To be safe, he sent two units each to attack the three units of Dehel stationed in Zatolpagat proper, and kept three more units back to act as reserves in case the worst were to happen. The Dehel militia in the city itself were caught off guard by the scale of the attack, and in a matter of minutes the 1st Swordsmen - the only part of the Dehel's left flank - was collapsing. Yorlon realized this and sent forward the 2nd Pike to reinforce them, and also sent the 3rd Swordsmen to keep the 1st Pike and 2nd Swordsmen units from collapsing as well. However the 2nd Pike was noticed by the Edazora Force's own 1st and 2nd Pike, and was quickly intercepted by them. The 3rd Swordsmen were luckier however and managed to reinforce and help hold the line against the four Edazora Force units smashing the Dehel's center and right flank..

Despite the reinforcing of the center and right flank of the Dehel line, the 2nd Pike were routed and devastated, with over 100 dead and an estimated 300 wounded. The 1st Swords also soon routed, with 78 dead and 300 more wounded. The Edazoran left flank, by comparision, had suffered only 66 dead and 120 wounded. With the left flank of the Dehel line gone, the Edazorans began to box the remaining three Dehel units in. The 3rd Swordsmen were forced to hold off the four left flank Edazoran units by themselves, while the 1st Pike and 2nd Swordsmen were forced to hold off two Edazoran units each. The entire line crumbled under the sheer overwhelming force of the Edazorans, and soon the Dehel line had been completely routed. The Edazorans pursued them for nearly a quarter of a mile, inflicting at least 80 more casualties. The battle was over in less than an hour, and the Edazorans reoccupied Zatolpagat .

Aftermath

The battle was a rather hefty defeat for the Dehel Jadahala, garnishing over 1,400 casualties while the Edazorans took only 670. They immediately retreated towards the nearest town, Thatigahal, in an attempt to regroup. The Edazorans - considerably less battered than the Dehel - pursued them, leading to the Battle of Thatigahal on October 22nd.
