Two special elections were held in the aftermath of the Telk Avenue shooting to replace the deceased PMs Ozijma Diž of the 1st Keszanetaa constituency, and Výka Soreiheňa of the 1st Hiy constituency. The elections were held on 10 December, 1976. Despite fears that another attack might occur against Tuszkeans on that day to intimidate voters, the day was peaceful with no incidents reported, and the Pažem Tuszkeya won both constituencies by a large margin over the only party which opted to contest the election, the Kryfona Royalist Party.
Although the Pažem won both constituencies, the party lost most of its seats in the next series of elections, including some seen as solidly Tuszkean, partially due to severely lowered turnout among Tuszkeans amidst fears of continued attack. In particular, the Pažem lost both the constituencies that they had retained in the 1976 special elections during the 1981 cycle, and would not win them back until the 2011 cycle.
Background
Timeline
By law, special elections in the Kryfona Kingdom must occur no later than six months after the event which triggers them. Afte it became apparent that special elections would be necessary in the aftermath of the Telk Avenue shooting, the process through which special elections are organized was immediately started by the government of Reriskzeiy and the cities of Keszanetaa and Hiy. The date must also be chosen by the governor of the province within two weeks of the event that triggers them: in this case, the date was chosen by Governor Seine Vanihäta as 10 December, 1976.
On 17 September, 1976, the Kryfona Loyalist Party announced that it would not contest the two constituencies out of honor for the two deceased MPs. The Yaraan Kryfon's Movement made a similar statement three days later on 20 September. The United Kryfona Party, which at the time held just a handful of seats in various constituencies, at first announced it would contest the constituencies on 22 September, but then rescinded its statement and on 24 September decided it would also refuse to contest the seats. Only the Kryfona Royalist Party, which at the time held a single seat more than the KLP and was facing the potential of being outnumbered in the Kryfonsparliszaiye, resolved it would contest the seats, which it stated it would do on 29 September. Even so, many of the party's MPs refused to back the effort, and a coalition of 22 of the party's members and MPs released a statement on 1 October saying that they would not fund or in any way support the contesting of the constituencies.
