The Kryfona Conservative Party (Kryfona: Kryfona Kojerkzelei Paszem; For. Kryf. /ˈkrɪˌf.nɑ ˈkˌɛrk.zɛ.lɛ ˈpæˌsɛm/; KCP or KKP),[note 1] often known simply as the Conservatives, is a right-wing sub-federal party in the Kryfona Kingdom, and the largest of the modern subfederal conservative parties in the nation. The party was originally founded as the Conservative Unity Movement in 1918 by a breakaway faction of the Oszej Unionists who, while otherwise conservative, disagreed with the Unionists' fervent support of Oszej and Neyuoszej ideology. The Conservative Unity Movement expanded significantly in its first years; by 1926, it had taken the place of the Oszej Unionists as the dominant conservative party in most provinces of the Kingdom, and in 1934 it became the sole conservative party with the dissolution of the Oszej Unionists. The party took its modern name of the Kryfona Conservative Party in 1936 after joining the Old World Conservative Union.

The Kryfona Conservative Party has historically varied in its political standing, going through periods of turmoil and turnover regarding how best to represent its constituents. In its early history, the party was a tradionalist conservative movement which sought only what it considered 'pure' conservatism; that is, it supported fiscal conservatism and some social conservatism, but otherwise took few stances. Its platform in this period stood much more in common with its counterparts in the Arieles Conservative Party (albeit more secular), and many of its policy positions were simply as expected of a conservative party. Gradually, however, the party began its first shift to the right as it took on many of the remaining Oszej Unionists. Starting around 1938, the party gradually became more supportive of the ideology of Impurism through its Unionist members, and in 1943 made Impurism an official plank of its policy. Openly Impurist members of the party also briefly controlled the party during a period in the late 1940s and early 1950s, drawing the ire of many traditional conservatives. Following heavy criticism, however, the party gradually weaned these members off, and by 1960 the party had reverted back to a traditional conservative party.

The party underwent considerable change throughout the 1960s and 1970s, as it established offshoot parties and dealt with the turmoil of a new political era. In 1966, a number of pro-business members abandoned the party and eventually established Kryfona, Now! over concerns that the Conservatives were not sufficiently aiding businesses with their policies. A pivot back to the right also led to the far-right of the party, headed by Jesdyi Pethajek and others, gaining significant institutional control over the party during the period. Most of their concerns nonetheless were beat back, but steered the party uncomfortably toward radicalism for many conservatives. The Telk Avenue shooting of 1975 and the banning of Impurism as an ideology by the Kryfonsparliszaiye in 1976 served as convenient events to steer the party leftward, which subsequently took place. Many far-right members of the party abandoned the Conservatives following this, and eventually the Kryfona Alliance was founded by these partyless vagabonds in 1982. Since this, the Conservatives have largely stabilized ideologically.

The Kryfona Conservative Party is one of the largest sub-federal parties in the Kryfona Kingdom by membership, and the largest of the conservative parties in the Kingdom. Nonetheless, it holds no provincial seats under its actual party wing; rather, its affiliate provincial parties hold these seats. The KCP has four such parties: the ACF of Seuyastazal, the CPT of Reriskzeiy, the CV of Vyfarla, and the CU which stands in several provinces but only holds seats in Yaraa. Collectively, these parties hold 20 seats. The Conservatives are currently oppositions members in all legislatures in which they hold seats. The main party is led currently by Kaghanen Diyien, who was elected in the 2014 leadership elections.

Notes

  1. The party is officially named the Conservative Kryfona Party, and this officially appears on its logo where the party goes by Kojerkzelei Kryfona Paszem. However, the party is registered to the Commission for Federal Elections as the Kryfona Conservative Party, and stands as such on the ballot. Most news outlets also use KCP, Kryfona Conservative Party, or Conservatives in reference to the party.
