The 2005 Kryfona parliamentary election was conducted on 1 October, 2005, to elect 81 members to the 47th Assembly of the Kryfonsparliszaiye. The 2005 election was the 47th in the history of the Kryfona Kingdom. Coming off of what had been a split government between the United Kryfona Party and the Kryfona Royalist Party, both of whom had garnered 21 seats in 1999, it was expected that there would be a very close race between those two parties in particular, and that one of the two would ultimately be the party to form a government. The third place Kryfona Loyalist Party, which had come up three seats short of the two parties, was also in the hunt for a government. Regardless of who won, however, it was clear that the winning party would require a coalition to govern effectively.
Somewhat surprisingly, the United Kryfona Party eked out a victory in three very close seats—these being Tirsim, Tauba, and Tivras—and managed to walk away with two seats more than they had won in 1999, establishing themselves as the dominant party in the Kingdom. The Royalists took the Outer Tauba constituency from the UKP, but lost the aforementioned cities of Tirsim, Tauba, and Tivras, as well as losing a single constituency in Fyranasaa to the Yaraan Kryfon's Movement. The Pazem Tuszkeya, Aryela Party, and Kryfona Loyalist Party neither lost nor gained seats in the election. A day after the election, the UKP and the two secessionist parties in the Pazem and the YKM established a coalition government, whose majority was exactly two seats—the parties controlled 43 of the 81 seats—officially, but which in practice was a slightly better 4, accounting for the Aryela Party. The 2005 elections were the first time since 1951 that a party besides the Royalists held unopposed power in the Kingdom.
Notes
- ↑ The legislative leader (and incidentally this is true of all other group leaders in the Kryfonsparliszaiye) does not necessarily have to be the party leader and, owing to the responsibilities of party leaders, typically is not. Vayni Dazan was appointed to hold the position by Ozsyi Nazszije on 1 October, 1993.
